The Bailiwick Freehouse

We’ve been visiting The Bailiwick regularly since it opened four years ago under the new ownership of Steven and Ami. The pub is situated in a fabulous location at one of entrances to the Windsor Great Park on Wick Road. It’s been a pleasure to visit on each occasion whether for a quick lunch , tasting menu , a la carte and like our latest visit the Sunday Roast.

This I have to say is one of the best around especially as their produce comes from the park itself. The price of the sunday roast is £60 for three courses and believe me when I say it’s not only great value but you will need a nice walk afterwards or a lie down.

We drove from east to west and was greeted by Lewis who along with the rest of the team looked after us all afternoon. After a drink at the bar we took our seats at our now usual table. Once settled we looked at the menu which was very appetising indeed. There is a good selection of starters , sunday roasts with all the trimmings , fish , and vegetarian options , side dishes and Ami’s amazing desserts. Before starting we were treated to the Game Charcuterie Board which is all homemade. It consisted of Rabbit Chorizo, Venison Salami, Pigeon Saucisson Sec, Gamebird Liver Parfait & Parker House Roll.

STARTERS – We decided to choose the River Trout Crudo with Blood Orange , Pickled Radish, Chilli and Tomato Essence as well as the Venison Bolognese Ravioli with Tomato Chutney & Parmesan Velouté. These were two amazing dishes in very different ways but absolutely delicious.

MAINS – Now it was time for the main event. My wife chose the Jimmy Butler’s Roast Pork Rack and for myself I opted for the roast beef. These came with all the trimmings ie. yorkshire pudding , seasonal vegetables , roast potatoes , gravy and of course the heavenly cauliflower cheese. The simple way to describe the roasts is by saying they were a 10/10.

DESSERTS – There is no better way to finish a sunday lunch at the Bailiwick than with one of Ami’s amazing desserts and the ones we had were simply stunning. The Raspberry Trifle with Raspberry and Lychee Jelly, Vanilla Custard,Toasted Almond, Lemon Balm, Lychee Sorbet, and Popping Candy was fruity , creamy and quite frankly heaven on a plate. But then there was absolute strawberry heaven in the form of the Strawberry Tartlet with English Strawberries, Elderflower, Vanilla, and Strawberry Sorbet. Congrats to Ami and Katie you’ve done it again with two fabulous desserts.

We finished with a coffee and a lovely chat with Steven and Ami who came out to see us. This was nice as we could thank them and tell them to pass on our gratitude to Arran , Katie , Lewis and the rest of the team for a fantastic afternoon. I have to say that a visit to The Bailiwick is a must as the food is amazing , service is very friendly and the location is excellent. So even if just want a quick pint , lunch , snack of a Sunday Roast then this is the place for you.

Many Thanks to all the team and look forward to seeing you all again soon.
