Marathaki Olive Oil and Tastings

While in Skiathos we went for an Olive Oil Tasting with our friend Chris. From the time we spent with him and thanks to his incredible knowledge we learnt so much about different types of oil including flavours , temperature , food pairings , etc. 

The tasting started with Chris giving us a detailed history of olive oil and reasons why we should be having more of it in our diet like people do in the Mediterranean. This is because as he explained there are so many health benefits. 

Before trying each of the oils you warm the glass in your hand for about a minute. This is to allow all the aromas to be released better and improve the flavour of the oil. 

The first oil we tasted was from the supermarket. This was to for us to see the difference when we tried our first Extra Virgin Olive Oil which was an Oleosopohia and I have to say was a dramatic improvement in quality and flavours. 

All the smells and flavours are put on a sheet along with scores on how each category Bitterness , Pungency and Fruit ratings. 

The second oil was the Marathaki Olive Oil by Chris. This really was the oil I enjoyed the most as it had for me the most flavour and also paired perfectly with fruit , yoghurt , etc. 

Our last oil was the Argilos which had very different intensity as did the two previous oils. 

It was great to have a discussion about each of the olive oils because between the three of us we noticed different fruits , spiciness and intensity. The oils also paired perfectly with the yoghurt especially when the salt was added. This was the  same with the  chocolate , orange , feta cheese , olives and tomatoes. 

This was an excellent Olive Oil Tasting Experience where you will learn so much and it will definitely make you think about which olive oil you buy in the future.
