Da Terra

A visit to the Two Michelin Star restaurant Da Terra has always been a dining highlight of our calendar year. This continued at the weekend with our latest experience. Head chef and owner Rafael along with his team create exceptional plates of food. The front of house is led superbly by manager and co owner Charlie. Then to top it off they have Maria who is one of the top sommeliers in the country.

The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green and on arrival we received a lovely welcome from Charlie before being escorted into the bar for an aperitif and where your lunch / dinner begins with a look through the menus and to enjoy the amazing snacks. These consisted of a Stout Cup with Sweetcorn , Duck Caesar , Yellow Beans with Eel and a Cassava with Lobster.

SNACKS

You are then led into the dining room for the rest of your lunch / dinner. Here you will meet the rest of the team and see the chefs in action as they have an open kitchen. We were having the Full Tasting Menu which started with a stunning new dish of CARABINERO with ajo blanco , tomato and basil. This was followed by THE QUAIL with tortellini in brodo and winter truffle. Next was the SOURDOUGH with cultured butter and gonnelli 1585 olive oil.

Now we moved on to the famous MOQUECA with aged trout , manteiguinha beans and farofa. This led to the main course of HOGGETT with courgette and girolles. Next was the newly designed ROMEO and JULIETTE where the goat’s cheese had ben airated and turned into an Ice Cream sandwich with the guava inside. This was a clever and delightful cheese course.

We now moved to the desserts starting with the BABA with cachaca , pistachio and N25 caviar. This led to the FIG with fig leaf and verjus.

We finished with team and petit fours of Sweetcorn Macaron , Passion Fruit Fudge and Quindim to bring to an end another fabulous visit to Da Terra. The food was once again amazing and was matched by excellent service. It’s also nice to chat with each member of the team throughout our experience which is why I would highly recommend a visit here. There is also the option of a three course lunch menu that we’ve also had the delight in trying and found to be of excellent value. So why not pick up the phone and make a reservation today.
